Looking for work? Need advice? Find out how the Student Jobshop can help you!

If you’re looking for work - whether it’s a part-time job, vacation work (in the UK or abroad) or even a placement or internship - then visit the Student Jobshop for handy help and advice on all things job related.

We’re here to answer any questions you might have, from how to write the perfect covering letter to where to look for work that’s relevant to your degree programme.

In fact, here are just some of the things we can help you with:

Applying for jobs: Writing CVs and covering letters can be a daunting experience, especially as it’s the first impression you make on an employer, and first impressions count! But don’t worry, call into the Jobshop and we have loads of information to help you with applications, from information packs on writing CVs, to sample covering letters and templates to help you get started.
•Looking for work: Browse the latest part-time jobs displayed in the Jobshop window or use one of our computers to search for jobs on our online database, myVacancies. And if you still can’t find what you’re looking for, then simply ask one of the Jobshop team, or pick up one of our information sheets on where to look for work.
•National Insurance (NI) Numbers: If you’re an international or EEA student, you’ll need a National Insurance number. This is a number allocated to you for tax purposes, and anyone planning to work in the UK must have one. If you’d like more information or you’d like to apply for a National Insurance Number, just ask a member of staff and we’ll happily show you how.
•In a rush? If you haven’t got time to chat, but you’re looking for help with vacation work, finding work abroad, placements, internships, or part-time work, then simply call in and collect any one of our many briefing sheets, designed to answer all your careers questions.

Not sure where to find us? We’re in the Student’s Union, between SSID and New Leaf, so feel free to drop by in between taking a break and grabbing some food!

We’re open 10am-3pm Monday - Friday, except Tuesdays when we open at 11am. (Hours do sometimes vary in vacation periods, but we’ll put a notice on the door to let you know when this happens).

Of course, if we are closed and you were hoping to look at the jobs we have available, then you can access myVacancies from any computer: just log into MUSE, click on the ‘Careers’ tab and click ‘Careers Vacancy Service’ – how’s that for job hunting made easy?!
