Welcome back!

Hello and Happy New Year if you are returning to Sheffield this weekend for the start of the January exam period. Here at the Careers Service we hope you’ve enjoyed your vacation, and that you feel refreshed and ready to start studying again. Ok, so this last bit is probably a bit optimistic, but hopefully you’re glad to be back.

We know that most of you will be busy revising and sitting exams over the next few weeks, but we thought we’d let you know what we’re up to in case you want a positive distraction. New for 2012 is our ‘Book on the Day’ service, which will replace the ‘Drop-in’ service that we used to have. This means that we have 15 minute appointments with a careers adviser available every weekday, and these can only be booked in person or by telephone from when the Careers Service opens that day (9:00am every day, except Tuesdays we open at 11:00am). Hopefully this should make it easier for those of you with urgent queries to get in to see us.

If you’re planning on revising in Western Bank Library over the next few weeks then you’ll probably notice our careers information stand, which will be there from Monday. It’ll be located straight across from the entrance barriers, so you really won’t be able to miss it! It’s a great opportunity to pick up information on job applications, preparing for interviews and what the Careers Service has to offer. You can also take away copies of graduate employer directories for FREE!

Although our programme of events doesn’t really start again until after you finish your exams, here are a few things to watch out for over the next few weeks:

  • Assessment Centres Workshop (18th Jan, 12pm-2pm) – it’s an extra session that we’re running, so if you’re interested then sign up online now.
  • Online Summer Experience Fair (9th Jan–4th May) – if you want to make some great plans for the summer, then you really need to keep visiting this Fair over the next few months.

Good luck with all of your assignments and exams!
