#grownlocallyUoS - Marmadukes

Marmadukes have been a favourite in Sheffield since 2012 when they opened on Norfolk Row, bringing their love of food and coffee right to the heart of the City.

They pride themselves on bringing to Sheffield the best food and drink, sourced locally where possible and are becoming a well-known hotspot on the Sheffield culture map. One reviewer said “There have been various different cafes before now, but none like this.”

Marmadukes are proud to be located in Sheffield and believe its ethnic diversity adds to their success. “Sheffield is a place on the up. We love its vibrancy and diversity. We welcome customers from all over the world each and every day. It adds immeasurably to the atmosphere at Marmadukes and we believe it is a great example of how we can thrive together in times of increasing divisiveness.”

Recruitment of staff is immensely important to Marmadukes and the staff they employ need to have the same enthusiasm, passion and knowledge as the company does for food and representing Sheffield. “We recruit most of our part-time staff from the University of Sheffield Careers Service. It has served us extremely well. It allows us to reduce the time we need to take recruiting high calibre staff and we continue to recruit students from the University who have a strong work ethic. We will continue to work with them, because it works extremely well for all concerned.”

Kate Tanzi of the University’s Student Jobshop says “Working with local employers such as Marmadukes is extremely important to the Careers Service.  Many students studying at the University need to work whilst they study to earn money but also to gain work experience. Students welcome the opportunity to develop their skill set whilst providing local employers with a successful employment solution.”

If you are a company wanting to recruit students on a part-time basis, whether you are looking to advertise for one student or many, for a few hours or for a longer term commitment, we can help you to access the huge range of student talent on your doorstep. Email studentjobshop@sheffield.ac.uk to find out more.

Marmadukes are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am - 4pm on Sunday for those wanting to sample some wonderful British food.  If you have a passion for coffee or would like to meet their brew-mad barista team in person, look out for the regular workshops which you can book onto.
